The gardens have a spectacular display of cool-climate species from throughout the world. There are 97 hectares of the hillside to explore. Exploring the gardens is a discovery-filled excursion in every season.

The Noel Lothian viewing platform is conveniently situated near the lower car park entrance. This is the best place to go for individuals who are unable to see everything the hills have to offer. This area features picnic tables and offers wheelchair access.

I’ve never been much of a bird watcher. But the Adelaide Hills have some of the most beautiful birds I’ve ever seen. We spotted some colourful birds around the Mount Lofty Botanic Gardens.

Enjoy the food

Spaghetti Head

Spaghetti Head in the Adelaide Hills

Spaghetti Head believes in letting fresh produce speak for it self, by making fresh, light and simplistic pasta dishes. This is truly what Italian cuisine and pasta is about.

Spaghetti Head offers an array of pastries and sweets during the day from Clara Cakes, as well as excellent coffee from Five Senses. During the day, a selection of breakfast options, antipasti, panini, pasta and desserts are available. As for the evenings, the daily made fresh pasta is on the menu, as well as other Italian inspired dishes.

German Arms

The German Arms is one of Handorf’s most well known pubs. Along with signature German dishes, they offer a wide selection of contemporary Australian pub-style classics and daily specials. All meals are prepared fresh and, wherever possible, made with locally sourced seasonal produce.

Same But Different Cafe

Same But Different use delicious coffee beans from Dawn Patrol Cafe, a nearby McLaren Vale roaster. The coffee is unparalleled; it is deliciously black and caffeinated. That’s not all, either. A variety of delectable deserts, juices, and smoothies are also offered. Including the hugely famous “loaded breakkie bagel,” which is topped with bacon, an egg, cheese, lettuce, and a hash brown.

How to get there

From Adelaide, you can reach the Adelaide Hills in about 20 minutes by car. From there, you can explore backroads through the winding hills. Hiring a car and driving the Adelaide Hills is one of the best ways to take in the scenery. However, there are regular bus services from Adelaide CBD to key attractions. You can reach key Cleland Wildlife Park, Mount Lofty Summit and Hahndorf by bus. Alternatively, you can book tours from Adelaide through the hills.
